As part of our partnership with Sport Newcastle we were delighted to present the North East's most decorated Olympian Stephen Miller MBE with the Sport Newcastle 2020 Wilkinson Sword award, reflecting his lifetime of sporting achievements.
Our Managing Director, Jess Swindells and Chief Executive, Ian McElroy were on hand to present Stephen with his prestigious award, as he received a standing ovation from a packed Newcastle Civic Centre audience of sporting protagonists, past and present, rising stars of the local sporting arena and a variety of North East businesses.
Speaking about his award afterwards Stephen said, "It's a little bit surreal to get a lifetime achievement award at the tender age of 39 but I've done quite a bit in my time so far I guess. It's an amazing gesture of recognition for what I have achieved up to now. The story is just getting going though and there's much more to come.
"To receive this award means a lot to me. I know the history behind it and what it means to the area. I've watched many of my heroes pick up the award, the likes of Sir Bobby Robson, Sir John Hall, Glenn McCrory, Alan Shearer, Jonathan Edwards, Brendan Foster and many more."
"I couldn't do any of what I do without my amazing family, they are the heartbeat behind my success, its all dedicated to them." he added.
